Robocall Legislation Goes into Effect 1/1/2020

Posted on January 2, 2020

Are you going to miss getting calls from an unknown number reminding you that “the warranty on your car is about to expire”?  I didn’t think so.  The President recently signed legislation aimed at cracking down on robocalling.   The new federal requirement is placed on phone companies to put a system in place that attempts to help stop the calls before they reach the consumer.  The phone companies are required to do this at no additional charge to their customers. The law will also give the FCC more time to fine robocallers.  While this is a step in the right direction, many – if not most – of the robocalls originate from outside the United States making it difficult to enforce.  Read more about robocalling on the FTC website.
