Girard/Arma/Franklin Fiber-to-the-Home Project Update

Posted on January 3, 2018

In August of 2017, work began to bring a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) connection to every single home and business in Girard. This was the start of a massive project utilizing a $59.8 million-dollar loan through the US Department of Agriculture/Rural Utilities Service loan that will bring FTTH to of 17 of our 33 exchanges over the next 5 years.

The main line fiber in Girard is currently being spliced and tested while other crews are placing drops (the final connection to the structure) to every single home or business in town. Currently there are less than 50 structures still awaiting fiber drop placement in Girard.

The next phase for Girard, set to begin in January, will be to actually cut over customers from the traditional copper lines to FTTH connections. Once connected, customers will be able to enjoy every service Craw-Kan has to offer – including a choice of 3 different HDTV packages starting at $39 to a truly unlimited Gigabit internet (1000Mbps) package for $70 a month – router included at no charge!

Main line crews have begun work in Arma, despite the extreme cold weather, and will be working furiously the next couple months to get the fiber infrastructure in place so that cut-overs for customers in Arma and Franklin will be tentatively connected in the spring. As the projects in Girard, Arma and Franklin are finishing up, our contractors – MP Nexlevel LLC – will move on the the next phase of the project that will take place in the city limits of Pleasanton and Cherokee Kansas as well as Purcell Missouri.
